Here are additional notes regarding marriage licenses that are important to note

You must wait for 24 hours after you obtain your Marriage License before you can have a marriage ceremony. The 24-hour waiting period may be waived by a judge or justice of the Supreme Court of New York State.
The Marriage License expires in 60 days after the time of purchase, except for active military personnel (see below).
A Marriage License obtained at any of our five offices may be used anywhere within the State of New York.

Know when appointments are released and act fast!

Now when it comes to getting an appointment for a marriage ceremony at new york city marriage beuuer, it sure feels like we are back in early covid days where everyone one fighting for toilet paper at the grocery store.

Appointments are released 3 weeks ahead of time every Monday at 9am.

Be quick to select your appointment as these get booked out extremely quickly!

Book your wedding photographer and ask your photographer if they can be a witness

You are only allowed one witness for your ceremony in city hall so it’s best to ask your photographer if they can be your witness and if they are, do ask them to bring the relevant ID along with them. Your witness needs to be at least 18 years old.

Marriage Ceremony at the City Clerks office

Be on time for your appointment. I recommend arriving 5-10 mins earlier than your appointment time. If you arrive too early, security will not allow you to enter. For one of the city hall weddings I’ve done, we arrived 30 minutes early and security only let us in 5 mins prior to the appointment time.
Also remember to bring your proper documents.
Bring a print out of your marriage license along with your proper identification. Here is a list of IDs that is recognized:

IDNYC
Driver License with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Non-Driver Identification Card with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Learner Permit with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Active United States Military Identification Card
Passport
United States Certificate of Naturalization (good for 10 years after date of issue)

United States Employment Authorization Card

Lastly, despite the logistics of having a city hall wedding, enjoy the day as it goes by extremely quickly! It’s so important to get great images to commemorate the day.
