The Merchant House is the perfect wedding for a small NYC wedding. This hole in a wall wedding venue is beautiful because it has the most gorgeous secret garden right in the middle of New york city! Chris and Michelle had the most beautiful intimate wedding at the Merchant House last summer.

MERCHANT HOUSE MUSEUM – THE PERFECT MICRO WEDDING VENUE

For couples who love a small intimate space, the Merchant House museum has a beautiful outdoor garden space at the back of the museum. It really is one of my most favorite locations to photograph a wedding at in New York City. This 19th Century family home is located in the East Village, between lafayette and bowery street in Manhattan. This Historic house museum represents New York City’s Greek revival architecture and lushly planted secrete garden is a beautiful location for a small intimate wedding in NYC.

The venue can accomodate 10-15 guests for a wedding ceremony. Michelle and Chris streamed their wedding online so that they can have more friends and family join from afar. The venue does not host food though, so here are some restaurants around the area that you can consider for a small wedding reception.

  1. Gramercy Tavern: This Michelin star restaurant which serves and seasonal menu just north of Union Square. Restaurant Address: 42 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003

2. Maman: French-American restaurant and cafe which has a few locations in the City! I recommend Maman Tribeca located at 211 W Broadway, New York, NY 10013 for a small intimate wedding reception.

Getting ready at the Standard East Village

The Standard East Village is just a 5 minute walking distance to the Merchant House Museum. Despite having a small wedding in NYC, Chris and Michelle wanted to have an intimate vow exchange with just the two of them. They had their first look at the rooftop of the Standard East Village which had beautiful views of New York City and after their first look, they did a vow exchange with just the two of them.

Wedding photos at Washington Mews and Washington Square Park

After the first look, we walked over to Washington Mews with Oliver, Chris and Michelle’s Corgi who was wearing the cutest wedding outfit! He definitely got the most attention that day – even more than the bride herself! I love shooting at the cobblestone streets at Washington Mews for classic NYC Wedding photos.

Small wedding ceremony at Merchant House Museum

After our couple portraits at Washington mews and Washington square park, we headed to Merchant House Museum. We took family portraits at the steps of the museum, followed by the long awaited small wedding ceremony. Michelle and Chris ended the celebration with a celebratory champagne toast!
