Sam and Jack has always dreamt of having a beautiful autumn wedding and their dreams sure did come true. The Prospect Park Boathouse is a gorgeous location for a wedding. This historic building with is nestled in the middle of Prospect Park and overlooks a lake. The building is iconic for its white and green ceilings with gorgeous green lamp posts to match.

Pros of having a wedding at the Boathouse

  1. You get a beautiful outdoor ceremony overlooking the lake. It’s especially beautiful during sunset.
  2. The architecture of this historic building is a beautiful backdrop for timeless wedding photos.
  3. Prospect Park makes for great nature related backdrops for photos
  4. The boathouse is 15 minutes from downtown Brooklyn so you don’t have to spend so much time traveling. The Ace Hotel is a great boutique hotel that is relatively close to the boathouse.
  5. The venue is pet friendly so you can have your little fur babies be with you during the most important day of your life!
  6. Catering and the venue comes together so that saves you the headache of sourcing for an extra vendor. However, this can be a con if you are very picky with your food choices.

Cons of having a wedding at the Boathouse

  1. You only have 2 hours prior to the time of the ceremony for set up. You should hire vendors who are experienced with the space since the time crunch can be a challenge.
  2. The Venue only allows for 2 hours for photos to be taken at the boathouse. I definitely recommend you to work with your photographer to come up with a photo timeline. All our couples will have a pre wedding consultation and multiple meetings to discuss the perfect non stressful photo timeline!
  3. Lighting at the boathouse for pre wedding photos can be quite harsh. The venue faces west and when we are taking photos in the afternoon light, the lighting can be a bit tricky to work with.
  4. The dance floor can be quite small for larger parties above 80 guests.
  5. The Venue can host 130-150 guests but the reception space would feel very cramped. This space is perfect for smaller weddings!

About the wedding day

Sam and Jack met on exchange whilst they were in Oxford University. They were both foreigners in a new country and connected then. They love traveling and they live in a cute little brownstone in Park Slope. The Prospect Park Boathouse was an easy location for them to pick since they live so close to it! Sam and Jack were pros at sourcing for potential locations at Prospect Park so Gabriel and I just had to follow along and photograph Sam and jack in their favorite spots in the park. The weather could not have been more perfect. It was a beautiful autumn day and even caught the fall foliage as well!

What the bride wore

Sam wore a gorgeous silk dress with intricate floral detailing on the bodice from Amsale. I love wedding dresses with sleeves and this definitely was one of my favorite dresses to photograph this past wedding season. To finish off the look, Sam wore pearl kitten heels from Jimmy Choo.
