Fine Art Pre Wedding Photos at the Top of the Rock

The Top of the Rock is one of the most requested locations for my fine art pre wedding photography in NYC. This engagement photoshoot in New York City took place on a warm summer evening around 5:00 PM, just as the sun was setting. The weather was perfect and the lighting was incredible.

Planning Your Fine Art Pre Wedding Photography Session in NYC

As an experienced fine art wedding photographer, I’ve got lots of tips for planning your New York pre wedding photos. If you’re considering having Top of the Rock engagement photos, there are a few things to consider.

How to Take NYC Engagement Photos at Rockefeller Plaza

Let’s go through the steps of how to take engagement photos at the Top of the Rock. Doing your pre wedding photos in NYC can take a bit of preparation and planning. This is because there are so many tourists and other couples who are also looking for timeless New York engagement photos.

Purchase your tickets online

When you’re planning your fine art pre wedding photos in New York, being prepared is key. You won’t want to have to wait in line for tickets at the Rockefeller Plaza. Make sure to buy your tickets online ahead of time before the engagement session takes place.

Grab Tickets for Your Fine Art Photographer

Don’t forget to purchase a ticket for your photographer as well. When doing your engagement photo session, your fine art engagement photographer will need to come with you as well.

Consider the Timing of Your Pre Wedding Photos in New York

If you’re planning on this location for your engagement photos, remember to consider what time you’ll be shooting. A morning session is great to avoid the crowds. An evening session is wonderful for golden hour lighting and the sunset over the city.

I love a sunset pre wedding photo session at the Top of the Rock. Seeing the golden light over the city is a magical experience. For both destination wedding couples in New York and locals, this is a beautiful spot to create some memories.

Factor in Waiting Time at the NY Engagement Photo Location

This engagement session location in New York City can get quite busy. When you enter the Top of the Rock, you have to go through security and join another line for the elevators. It can be a long waiting game.

If you’re having an evening NYC engagement session, make sure to plan for this kind of timing. Show up to the Top of the Rock for your pre wedding photos long before the golden hour hits. I recommend showing up at least an hour before sunset begins.

Hire a Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist

Consider hiring a hair stylist and makeup artist for your fine art pre wedding session. I always want my couples to feel the best that they can in front of the camera lens. Showing up to your engagement photoshoot with hair and makeup done can make you feel special.

Also consider getting a flower bouquet! The more dressed up you are, the more tourists will give you space to take your photos! Many people are excited to see you and your partner wedding ready and will move for you to get your shot.

A Beautiful Engagement Photo Session at the Top of the Rock

S and R were the sweetest people to work with for their fine art pre wedding photos in New York. S also brought her maid of honor for this session. It was such a great idea to involve the wedding party before the wedding date! That way, I know who to look for on the wedding day as a point of contact.

A Quick Outfit Change

We started at Top of the Rock, did an outfit change and then headed over to Central Park to catch the last light of the day! I loved capturing the love story between these two. This special fine art pre wedding photography session was such a beautiful memory for all of us. Engagement shoots at the Top of the Rock are always iconic and timeless.
