As the winter season is coming up, winter weddings are becoming very popular! In New York City, venues can be so expensive during peak season. Consider a winter wedding if you have a dream venue that you want to get married at but don’t have the budget for it.

Here are things to consider when planning a Winter Wedding in NYC.

Be mindful of day light savings for your Winter Wedding in NYC

Good lighting is key to getting great, dreamy wedding photos. The soft light in the winter time makes for great portraits as the winter light really does give your skin a glowy, rosy tone! A down side to having a winter wedding is that the sun sets earlier than usual.

My number one tip is to do a first look. That way, we can get your couple portraits, bridal party portraits and family portraits done before the ceremony.

Regulate a confortable indoor temperature for your guests

The comfort of your guest should be key when planning a winter wedding. Very often, your guests would be dressed to the nines and the last thing you want to do is to have them freeze!

I recommend having an indoor ceremony to avoid this from happening.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, make sure your venue does not overheat the space! You don’t want your guests to be sweating by the end of the night either.

Have a designated spot for coat check

While checking in your guests, create a designated and safe spot for coat check and big personal items like umbrellas or big tote bags!

Dress for the occasion!

Have fun with topping your wedding dress with a white faux fur shawl or even opt for a conservative long sleeve bodice. That way, you will stay warm and toasty without sacrificing the fashion on your winter wedding day in NYC.

Have a contingency plan for your Winter Wedding in NYC

The winter in New York can be so unpredictable, you never know if a snow storm would hit on your wedding day!

Work with your wedding planner or New York City Wedding Photographer to come up with a contingency plan. Always have a back up indoor location where you can get photos at.

You can also embrace the weather and have your photos taken in a snow storm! Some of my favorite photos like this one was taken during a snow blizzard.

Have hand warmers ready for you and your bridal party

If you are planning on having photos outside with you and your soon to be partner and your bridal party, consider gifting hand warmers to them.

A little trick I always have is to also insert these hand warmers in your shoes/boots! This makes such a huge difference when you are out in the cold for more than an hour!

Plan for a honeymoon in a warm climate!

Some amazing honeymoon spots to escape the winter in NYC can be Hawaii or even Tulum! After spending a day in the cold, I’m sure a summer getaway in the middle of winter would be a nice getaway.
