Beautiful, Small NYC Wedding on a Sailboat

This intimate NYC wedding with Krista & Dio was nothing short of fun. Their sailboat wedding was definitely an iconic day in New York City. These two knew that they wanted their small wedding to be personal – nothing performative, but genuine and fun. They thought that bringing their guests on a sailboat would be a unique experience.

Gone are the days with small talk and 30 seconds conversations. Krista and Dio made sure that they interacted with all their guests, and they made them feel amazing even on their wedding day. Let’s go through every bit of this intimate NYC wedding at Bottino, with reception on a sailboat.

First Look Photos at Madison Square Park

The day started with a first look in the Flatiron District by Madison Square Park. Krista and Dio knew that they wanted some classic New York street shots that gave out those big-city vibes. They have been living in the city for quite a while and wanted to capture the essence of it. Despite a little worry about the weather – the forecast said rain that day – we got beautiful blue skies.

We then headed to an Italian restaurant – Bottino – in Chelsea for the intimate NYC wedding ceremony. It was then followed by a wonderful lunch. Speeches were kept to a minimum, and the mini cake was accompanied by donuts from their favorite store. Next, we were off to the wonderful sailboat wedding reception.

NYC Small Wedding Reception at Chelsea Piers

Krista, Dio and all their wedding guests took a stroll to Chelsea piers to dock on the Harbor Line Cruise. The crew took us around to see the beautiful Manhattan skyline and docked right in front of the Statue of Liberty. Just when we were heading back to the piers, a dark cloud came over. This didn’t stop the guests and the bride and groom from partying – they all happily wore  plastic ponchos over their fancy wedding outfits!

From the Bride Regarding Their Intimate NYC Wedding

“Dio and I met in high school, although we were not high school sweethearts! We didn’t start getting close until a couple years after graduation. Then I moved to NYC, and I guess Dio just couldn’t live without me and moved to the city months later!

Having a sailboat wedding was all Dio’s idea! He wanted something different for the reception where we can just chill with our guests and “not be confined to four walls.” (His exact words haha) I would have never thought of doing a sailboat party myself, but I warmed up to the idea quickly! It was perfect for the fun city vibe that we wanted.

Looking back, my favorite part of the day was right after the ceremony when we had lunch at the restaurant. I was just sitting there at the table looking at everyone who was present to celebrate with us. It was really special for us because the majority of our guests (I want to say 95%) were from out of town. I felt so loved.”
